A Genius Idea for an electrific pick

A challenge in which students simulate a sorting facility by designing an electromagnet capable of separating ferromagnetic metals from other materials. They’ll experiment with magnetism and explore how electromagnets are used in real-world technologies such as the electromagnetic cranes found in recycling centres.

  • Two containers with metal paper clips and other non-ferromagnetic materials
  • Insulated electrical wire (~60 cm)
