What you will actually do

As a mining engineer, you’ll plan and supervise the extraction of mineral resources from underground.

Perform surveys and preliminary studies of mineral ore and mineral deposits to assess the economic and environmental feasibility of future mining operations.
Determine extraction processes based on deposit characteristics, the stability of surrounding layers, and the thickness of coverage.
Locate and plan the layout of mining shafts, galleries, and chambers (especially for underground mining operations).
Develop suitable drilling and blasting patterns for extraction processes.
Design, develop, and test computer applications for designing, modeling, representing mines, and monitoring mine conditions.
